Descendants of Johann Marcus ENGELHORN II

1. Johann Marcus ENGELHORN II was born 11 Dec 1782 in Altlussheim, Baden, Germany. He died 25 Oct 1869 in Altlussheim.
    Johann Marcus Engelhorn was the common ancestor of all the Engelhorns who emigrated to Allamakee County, Iowa. He was a Burger, farmer and magistrate.
    Johann Marcus' uncle was Sebastian Engelhorn. Sebastian's youngest son, Johann's cousin, was Julius Jakob Engelhorn, father of Johann Peter who emigrated to Ohio and San Jose, Logan County, Illinois.
    Johann married Eva Katharina WERNER, daughter of Martin WERNER, on 25 Feb 1805 in Altlussheim. She was born 1 Mar 1786 in Altlussheim and died 27 Feb 1857 in Altlussheim.
    Eva's birth and death places are not known, assumed to be Altlussheim. Her father was Martin Werner, a Burger and carpenter.

2 M i Johann Thomas ENGELHORN III was born 10 Aug 1805 in Altlussheim and died 19 Aug 1869 in Altlussheim.
     Johann married Katherine Barbara STEPHAN, daughter of Conrad STEPHAN and Eva Catharina KOHLER, on 23 Oct 1828 in Altlussheim. Katherine was born 26 Oct 1800 in Altlussheim and died there 25 Dec 1865.
     Johann Thomas and Katherine Barbara Stephan Engelhorn had 11 children, all born in Germany, in the village of Altlussheim. Two died in childhood, one married and remained in Germany, the other eight came to America. John Thomas and his wife stayed in Germany.
       Johann Thomas was the progenitor of the "Thomas Line," He was a Burger and farmer.

Johann Jakob ENGELHORN Sr. was born 30 Jun 1807 in Altlussheim, Baden, Germany. He died 9 Jul 1880 in Lansing, Allamakee County, IA and was buried in Lansing Ridge Cemetery, Allamakee County.
    Jakob married Elizabetha STEPHAN on 28 Mar 1834 in Altlussheim. Elizabetha was born 11 May 1809 in Altlussheim. She died 27 Jul 1878 in Lansing.
      Jakob was the progenitor of the "Jakob Line." He emigrated on 2 June 1853, arriving in Allamakee County on 23 October of that year. Jakob and Elizabetha Stephan Engelhorn brought all seven of their surviving children with them to Allamakee county, Iowa. Jakob was the oldest of the three brothers who emigrated to Allamakee County. The other two were Mathias and Johannes.
4 M iii Johann Heinrich ENGELHORN was born 26 Mar 1809 in Altlussheim, Baden, Germany. He died 26 Apr 1818 in Altlussheim.
5 M iv Johann Mathias ENGELHORN was born 19 Jul 1811 in Altlussheim, Baden, Germany and was christened 21 Jul 1811 in Altlussheim. He died 7 Jan 1901 in Lansing, Allamakee County, IA and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Allamakee County.
    Mathias married Anna Margaretha SCHWECHHEIMER, daughter of Johann SCHWECHHEIMER and Maria Magdalena STEPHAN, on 10 Apr 1834 in Altlussheim. Anna was born 30 Sep 1810 in Altlussheim. She died 7 Dec 1878 in Lansing.
    Mathias was the progenitor of the "Mathias Line" of Allamakee County Engelhorns. He and Anna Margaretha had nine children, seven of whom emigrated with their parents to America, two having died in infancy.
According to the register of emigrants they were on the same ship with his brother Johann Jakob and his family, departing 2 June 1853.

7 F vi Christina Margaretha ENGELHORN was born 3 Sep 1814 in Altlussheim. She died 14 Sep 1871 and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Allamakee County, IA.
     Christina married George RUCH before May 1858 in Lansing, Allamakee County, IA. George was born about 1813 in Baden, Germany.
     Christina Margaretha emigrated in 1852 with her sister Christina Wilhelmine, brother Johannes, and two nephews, Johann Martin and Julius. It is known from a letter to Germany from Johannes that Christine was in Iowa with her brother in 1852.

   He married (1) Maria Magdalena ROTH on 20 Jun 1851 in Germany. Maria was born 10 Nov 1816 in Germany and died 23 Apr 1854 in Germany.
   Julius married (2) Maria Elisabetha WERNER on 1 May 1860 in Altlussheim. She was born 24 Mar 1840 in Altlussheim and died 21 Oct 1861.
   Julius married (3) Eva Maria KOHLER on 15 May 1862 in Germany. She was born 17 Apr 1837 in Germany and died 1877.

   Johannes married Anna Eva BARTHEL, daughter of George Paulus BARTHEL and Barbara Sabrina SCHEUERLEIN, on 1 Mar 1854 in Lansing, Allamakee County, IA. Anna was born 27 Jun 1817 in Beerbach, Bavaria, Germany. She died 13 Jun 1894 in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, MT.
   Progenitor of the "John Line", Johannes emigrated 12 March 1852 with his two sisters, Christina Maragretha and Christina Wilhelmina and two nephews, sons of his brother Johann Thomas III; Johann Martin and Julius Jakob.
   Johann was employed as a carpenter and millwright in a number of cities in Germany and Austria before sailing from Le Harve, France on the ship "Tirrell" for New Orleans. Arrival in New Orleans was on 18 May, 1852. Johann, his two sisters and two nephews arrived in Dubuque, Iowa about mid-June, 1852.
13 F xii Christina Wilhelmina ENGELHORN was born 1 Jul 1825 in Altlussheim, Baden, Germany. She died 15 Dec 1900 in Dubuque, Dubuque County, IA and was buried 18 Dec 1900 in Dubuque.
      Christina married Joseph H. PLATZ on 1854 in Dubuque. Joseph was born 8 Apr 1829 in Wurttemburg, Germany. He died 22 Jul 1901 in Dubuque.
      Christina was known as Wilhelmina. She came to New Orleans in 1852 on the ship "Tirrell" with her older sister Christina Margaretha, brother Johannes, and nephews Johann Martin and Julius Jakob. They traveled by riverboat up the Mississippi River to Iowa.
